HON. MR. JUSTICE KASHIM ZANNAH, OFR
Chief Judge, Borno State
Hon Justice Kashim Zannah, OFR, is the Chief Judge of Borno State High Court. Called to the Bar in the year 1984, his career spanned public prosecution, magistracy, judicial administration as Chief Registrar and elevation to the High Court bench in the year 1997. He was appointed Chief Judge on the 3rd day of January 2006.
His Lordship is the Chairman of the Council’s Judicial Information Technology Policy (JITPO) implementation Committee and Member of the Performance Evaluation of Judicial Officers, the Preliminary Complaints Assessment and the Transparency and Anti-Corruption Policy Committees.
His Lordship is active on several international bodies in the field of judicial education and justice generally. To his credit are numerous presentations at several international fora, like the World Jurists Association (WJA) World Congresses, International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC), the International Society for the Reform of Criminal Law (ISRCL) and the American Bar Association (ABA).
He is often invited to Expert Group Meetings of the United Nations’ organs, like the UNHCR, UNODC and UNDP, convened to develop manuals and guidance materials, particularly on the subjects of refugee law, judicial integrity, and anti-corruption generally, in cities like Geneva, Vienna, Ankara, San Jose (Costa Rica), Putrajaya, etc.
Consequently, His Lordship is often invited to, and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of several international bodies in the field of law and justice, for example, the Commonwealth Judicial Education Institute (CJEI), International Institute for Justice Excellence (IIJE), The Hague and the International Society for the Reform of Criminal Law (ISRCL). He is also Deputy President of the International Organisation for Judicial Training (IOJT).
In April 2018, His Lordship was appointed by the United Nations to the pioneering 10-man Advisory Board of the Global Judicial Integrity Network (GJIN).
Hon. Justice Zannah is recipient of the Medal of the International Society for the Reform of Criminal Law (ISRCL), 2012 and the United States National Centre for State Courts (NCSC) Distinguished Service Award, 2013.
