Hon. Justice Cosmas Aondoaseer Idye is the President of the Benue State Customary Court of Appeal. He was born at Ikumbur-Mbatiav, in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.

He obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from the University of Lagos in 1985, was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986, and also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree.

Justice Idye was appointed a Judge of the Benue State Customary Court of Appeal in 2001 and rose to become President of the Court in 2015. He currently serves as Chairman of the Forum of Grand Kadis and Presidents of Sharia and Customary Courts of Appeal in Nigeria.

He has served on National Assembly, Governorship, and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunals, and is a Member of the Board of Governors of the National Judicial Institute (NJI) as well as the Benue State Judicial Service Commission.

Justice Idye is a recipient of the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and the Papal Knighthood of St. Pope Sylvester (KSS). He was appointed a Member of the National Judicial Council in January 2026.
